Abstract

AbstractA mathematic model of microorganism colony growth on solid media was worked out, the substrate diffusion taken into account. The sample being Sacch. cerevisiac yeast correspondence of experimental and calculated data was demonstrated. Sacch. cerevisiac yeast specific growth rates on various substrates were determined. Some parameter effect on colony growth kinetics on a solid medium surface was shown. Two phase of limitation were detected in microorganism colony development – kinetical and diffusional ones. On the basis of calculations, theoretical suppositions and experimental data a conclusion was made that solid fermentation required the finest grinding possible, taking into account growth limitation by diffusion. Besides, dense seeding of all the medium surface with cells was found important.
