Abstract

Abstract The Free Buryatia Foundation is Russia’s first ethnic anti-war advocacy group founded in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. One of the major parts of our work is analysis of open-source data on the participation of Russia’s ethnic minorites (including Buryats) in the war in Ukraine. In this paper, we discuss ethnic disproportions in the confirmed Russian-side casualties of the war in Ukraine where such ethnicities as Buryats, Kazakhs, and Tuvans are clearly over-represented.
