Abstract

The time has come for a concerted effort to develop a viable rural press to serve the 76 per cent of the Indian population living in rural areas. Rural newspapers are important because those emanating from urban centres do not serve the needs of the rural population who need information on agriculture, livestock and need to be made,aware of “what is happening in their immediate environment.”
