Abstract

Rural power quality is a study of the compatibility between the electric utility electrical supply characteristics and consumer electronic and electrical equipment performance characteristics. Very little published literature is available about the magnitude and duration of voltage disturbances that occur at rural farm sites. Based on surveyed voltage disturbance characteristics, the origins and causes of on-site and utility disturbances are presented and discussed in some detail in the paper. The power profiles of the various types of farm operations will provide a basis for mitigating actions by utilities and their rural industrial customers by enhancing their ability to identify the possible-origins of power supply disturbances affecting the performance of electronic and electrical equipment. The power profiles presented in this paper also provide a guide for rural power line monitoring site surveys of the possible voltage disturbances characteristics that can occur at a specific farm site.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
