Abstract
Abstract A 60-year-old male presented with life-threatening hematemesis from spontaneous rupture of an aneurysm of the cervical internal carotid artery (ICA). The hemorrhage was controlled by emergency ligation of the ICA in the neck. The patient made an excellent recovery and 6 months later, no neurologic deficit was noted. The diagnosis of an extracranial carotid artery aneurysm without a pulsatile lump may be very deceptive.
