Abstract
There are several clinical conditions in patients with cervical urethral obstruction, that lead to postponing the disobstructive surgical procedure. In these patients the IUC of Nissenkorn is an effective alternative to the intraurethral catheter. The prosthesis was placed in 45 patients with chronic urinary retention; 10 (22.2%) had a catheter; 35 (77.8%) showed clinical and urodynamic signs of serious cervical urethral obstruction; 30 (66.6%) later underwent a deobstructive operation; 10 (22.2%) still have the IUC; in 5 patients (11.1%) the prosthesis was removed in the first week. During this period (1991-1993) a greater tolerance and a smaller incidence of infections compared to the traditional catheter was observed and, above all, a better compliance of the patient with regard to his relationships.
