Abstract Chapter 17 deepens the rule‐following discussion and critically examines Saul Kripke's influential sceptical interpretation of Wittgenstein. Pears discusses Wittgenstein's rejection of Platonism and connects the rule‐following considerations to a number of strands of Wittgenstein's thought introduced in the previous chapters.
