Abstract

Surfaces generated by straight lines are called ruled surfaces. Ruled surfaces are easily constructed of rods, wire or line into objects that illustrate complex mathematical symmetries. The author describes three such surfaces and specifies their construction in some fixed coordinate system: saddle surfaces in cylindrical and rectangular coordinates, helicoids in cylindrical and rectangular coordinates, and a Moebius surface in spherical and rectangular coordinates.
