Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores Rule Consequentialism. It begins with a brief introduction to contemporary Rule Consequentialism, focusing on Brad Hooker’s formulation. A new formulation of Rule Consequentialism is developed, incorporating the lexical value theory presented in Chapter 3. It then demonstrates the general intuitive appeal of this formulation, focusing on parental obligations to demonstrate that Rule Consequentialism avoids at least one of the failings of the Hybrid View.
