Abstract

The Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are crucial elements in SCADA systems which are responsible for data acquisition in substations, and accomplishment of central station commands. In this work we present a new hardware design for an RTU that performs basic functions of the RTU. In this method we will have completely parallel computing which increases the speed of RTU tasks called non delay RTU. Using no processor, the risk of system crash will be eliminated and RTU reliability will be enhanced. Our design is composed of four main modules including Analog Input, Digital Input, Communication Interface and Digital Output. These modules have their own components in their architectures. This design is made by FPGA with ample possibility of various reconfigurations so you can generate adequate I/Os by using right number of these modules and have suitable RTU to use in any substations.
