Abstract
Hellenists know the services that can be rendered by the Repertoire des catalogues de manuscrits grecs of Marcel Richard. It is an indispensable heuristic tool but also a witness of the development of codicology and a witness of history. Such a tool was lacking for specialists of Armenian manuscripts, philologists, linguists, and art historians. The Repertoire des bibliotheques et des catalogues de manuscrits armeniens publishes, for the first time, all the libraries, public and private, known to possess Armenian manuscripts. For each, it gives the catalogue or catalogues published and, if appropriate, an indication of the content of the manuscripts and their origin. Tables of concordance between the current references and the old references enable one to locate manuscripts that are thought to have disappeared or to find more complete descriptions in an old catalogue than are given in recent lists. The volume also includes an impressive index of manuscripts.
