Abstract
In this paper the statistical bases for the distribution of molecules emitted by a vapour source are reviewed. The problem of accomodation coefficient is dealt with, and the reflection of molecules from surfaces. Finally, the effect of residual gas on the distribution of molecular velocities and the spatial distribution of the molecular beam density is dealt with.
