Abstract

ABSTRACT Parameters for the Royal Navy's current spill response postures and the associated required equipment are given, followed by discussion of ballast water problems resulting from the development of the modern warship. Equipment development is traced over the past decade in the three areas of dispersal, containment, and recovery: this is followed by detail of Royal Navy oil spill equipment, current holdings, and performance. The factors which have influenced oil spill response postures and equipment development during the past decade, are reviewed with indications given for the way ahead.
