Abstract
In Lawyers, Swamps, and Money, Royal C. Gardner injects much needed humor into a topic that can be dense, difficult, and often riddled with intense controversy. Wetland law and policy in the USA consists of a confusing web of statutes, regulations, permits, and guidance documents, which an army of judges have reviewed and interpreted through constitutional and narrower lenses. Gardner brings both levity and as much clarity as possible to this quagmire through popular references that range from the 1950s children’s book Dear Garbage Man to Far Side cartoons and even a quote from Pirates of the Caribbean.
