Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, we propose an application of the genetic algorithm to adaptive routing and flow control in information networks. Although studies using a genetic algorithm have been made on routing or flow control individually, this study proposes a method which controls them simultaneously. We chose a flow model which can evaluate congestion by the traffic arrival rate in a link. By simulation, we show that the proposed network control method using the genetic algorithm is superior to the usual method which performs routing by the Dijkstra method and flow control by the gradient method. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
