Abstract

The paper presents a review of four techniques which are used for detecting, and in some instances locating, short-circuited turns in the rotors of large turbogenerators. The information is supplemented by experience with some of the techniques gained in a manufacturing establishment. The four techniques described are airgap search coil, recurrent surge oscillograph (RSO), circulating stator current, and rotor shaft current.
