Abstract

In this paper, rotor eddy current loss and thermal performance analysis for a 150 kW, 17000 rpm highspeed permanent magnet synchronous machine are presented. Firstly, machine structure is introduced with prototype manufactured. Then, machine rotor eddy current loss is comprehensively investigated by Finite element method. The influences from machine design parameters on eddy current loss are studied. Moreover, composite rotor structure with the combinations of different rotor sleeve and shielding sets are proposed and studied for rotor loss reduction. Machine thermal performance is also researched by Computational Fluid Dynamics with the factors effecting machine temperature analyzed and discussed
