Abstract

High-spin states of the Ba and Ce isotopes are studied in the framework of two quasiparticles coupled to a core which is described either by a triaxial rotor or by the IBA model. Bands built upon both ( ν h 11 2 ) −2 and ( π h 11 2 ) 2 configurations are considered, which is found to be necessary for a proper description of band-crossing systematics in this region. Reasonable agreement is obtained between the recent experimental results and the calculated energy spectra and electromagnetic properties.
