Abstract

A molecular model based on the Zubarev nonequilibrium statistical operator and the method of conditional distributions due to Rott are applied to calculating the rotational viscosity coefficient (RVC) of a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) composed of interacting ellipsoidal molecules near an interacting wall. The RVC is presented as an explicit function of temperature, the molecular moment of inertia and the set of NLC order parameters. The RVC for PAA (P-azoxianisole) NLC has been estimated.
