Abstract

A splitting Δ=8.0 μeV of the librational ground state of the NH3 molecules in Ni (NH3)6Br2 has been observed directly by inelastic neutron scattering at T=5 K. In Ni (NH3)6Cl2 the tunnel lines cannot be well resolved. A splitting Δ?0.1 μeV has been estimated at T=9 K.
