Abstract

Aim: Rotational Stability of Medicontur IOLs was examined in 34 eyes of 26 patients by a technique comparing postoperative photographs. Setting: St Imre Teaching Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology, Budapest, Hungary. Methods: At the end of the uneventful phacoemulsification and IOL implantation a small capsule cut was created at the site of the IOL haptics, before the OVD was washed out. Two tiny capsule flaps were torn off 180 degree apart, marking the intraocular location of the haptics. The speculum and the sterile drape were carefully removed to prevent rotation of the IOLs. Digital slit lamp pictures were taken one day, one week, one month and 4 months after phacoemulsification. Results: No rotation was observed at all in 28 eyes (83%), while in the other 6 cases (17%) the rotation of the IOLs remained within 5 degree. Conclusion: Our newly developed measuring method showed no or minimal IOL rotation of the Medicontur IOL, which could be recommended as a toric IOL because of its good stability during the follow up period.
