Abstract

The rotational spectra of the normal and 37Cl isotopomers of 1-chloro-4-fluorobenzene have been measured by pulsed supersonic nozzle, Fourier-transform microwave spectroscopy. The rotational constants were determined to be A=5646.073(87) MHz, B=956.7374(2) MHz and C=818.1184(3) MHz for the normal isotopomer and A=5646.218(131) MHz, B=931.9794(3) MHz and C=799.9468(3) MHz for the 37Cl isotopomer. The dipole moment has been determined to be 0.12(1) D from Stark effect measurements. The experimental rotational constants and dipole moments were compared with results obtained from ab initio calculations and structural parameters obtained from these calculations were compared with experimental values for chlorobenzene and fluorobenzene.
