Abstract

Calculations are reported on the rotational transitions J → J ′ = J, J ± 2, J = 0, …, 3 of H 2, with the simultaneous excitation of a vibrational quantum, in the scattering of a slow electron. The method is based on the quantum mechanical impulse approximation, which neglects the kinetic energy of rotation of the molecule during the collision. The results are in fair agreement with the experiment of Ehrhardt and Linder [1].
