Abstract
The angular distribution expression for scattering of a structureless particle from a rigid rotating diatomic molecule has been simplified by using the angular momentum recoupling method. The formulae are derived by using this expression to compute the cross sections for transitions among various rotational levels of a diatomic molecule when the e--molecule problem is solved in a body-fixed frame of reference in the fixed-nuclei approximation. The energy dependence of the differential cross section for rotationally elastic and inelastic e--N2scattering has been calculated in the adiabatic-nuclei approximation. The results for the momentum transfer cross section are also given.
