Abstract

A rotating ring-disk technique has been developed for the analytical determination of nitrate ions in acid media. It is based on the measurement of the ring currents associated with the oxidation of nitrite ions generated by the reduction of nitrate ions on a gold-disk electrode covered by a layer of underpotentially deposited cadmium. The ring currents were found to be proportional to the amount of nitrate in solutions for concentrations in the millimolar range down to 20-30 ppb.
