Abstract
By an elasto-plastic design the transferable torque of an interference fit can be increased significantly. In high-speed applications the initial contact pressure is reduced by the centrifugal body force. A fit having a full shaft and equal elastic constants of shaft and hub material is considered. Using Tresca’s yield criterion an analytical solution determining the dependence of contact pressure on angular velocity is derived. All formulae necessary for design of fits are presented. Numerical results are given and conclusions for practical applications of rotating elasto-plastic interference fits are drawn.
