Abstract

Abstract The authors describe the design of a sealed rotation point suitable for use under a nitrogen pressure of 8000 bar. Several metallic and plastic materials forming the seal were tested using the same geometry. The characteristics of the seal friction torques are described. Certain plastic materials are of particular interest as they ensure good sealing and display a low, stable average friction torque.
