Abstract

Since the early 1970's, rotary forging has received increased attention in Japan. Investigations into machine performance, deformation characteristics, workpiece accuracy, frictional conditions, powder compaction and sinter-forging have been carried out in both governmental and private industrial research laboratories. Many Japanese Companies are now using rotary forging techniques to produce a wide variety of light engineering components. This paper, published in two parts, surveys the contribution to the understanding of rotary forging from work undertaken and published in Japan hitherto unobtainable in the English language. It is hoped, by making this information available to a wider audience, to enhance the further development and industrial implementation of the rotary forging process.
