Abstract
Changes in gas density significantly affect the airflow measurements by rotometers. Using an air sampling device with rotameter at an altitude different than that for which it was calibrated can yield serious error. The correction of the rotameter for altitude is relatively straightforward but can be confusing. Prior publications in the air sampling literature dealt primarily with portable sampling pump behavior rather than that of the rotameter. The paper derives the correction equations and illustrates and tabulates their proper use for various situations.
