Rosenthal fiber encephalopathy and Alexander disease

Abstract

Background: Numerous Rosenthal fibers were revealed both adult onset Alexander disease (AOAD) and Rosenthal fiber encephalopathy (RFE). Rosenthal fibers usually showed the area of perivascular, periventricular and brainstem. Alexander disease is associated with mutations in GFAP gene. However, RFE has not detected mutation of GFAP gene.It remains obscure in what condition Rosenthal fibers are formed and how different RF formation in both AOAD and RFE. We are made some special reference about this presentation.
