Rosary Nehassaiu de Gannes (bio) i granny, i am fingering each bead is an open casket ii catherine, i am stitching the knotted string of your hex iii granny, i am listening to the voice in the seams of my dress iv granny, i am singing my mouth ferments dry ginger v catherine, i am steeping banana leaf parcels in sugarcane wine vi granny, where i am travelling there will be no need for conjure vii catherine, i am stewing storebought chicken in a cast iron pot [End Page 634] viii granny, i am herding your hymns to the head of my bed ix Oya! i am scattering the beaded words of our dead Nehassaiu de Gannes Nehassaiu De Gannes, a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, received the M.A. degree from Temple University. Currently, she teaches English at the Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island. During the 1996 fall term, she will enter the Creative Writing Program at Brown University.
