Abstract

This article examines the prevalence, mechanism and risk factors associated with orthodontically induced root resorption. The long term prognosis for those who suffer severe root resorption is also discussed. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Root resorption is an inevitable consequence of treatment with fixed appliances. This article indicates risk factors which may be identified prior to treatment, and measures which may be taken to minimize shortening during treatment.
