Abstract

In this work, a LiCoO2 (LCO)-based artificial synapse was fabricated at room temperature. Under continuous pulses stimuli, the device exhibited remarkable biological behaviors such as potentiating, depressing, forgetting, relearning, short-term plasticity (STP) and long-term plasticity, which were similar to the switching process in human brain. Switching process in LCO-based artificial synapse was controlled by the transport of Li ions between LCO film and ultrathin SiOx buffer layer, the latter was formed in LCO/Si interface during the fabrication process. This work provides a feasible way to realize low-temperature processed nerve synapse for neural network and artificial intelligence machines.
