Abstract

AbstractThis paper deals with the basic principles of the production of mild steel plates in reversing plate mills. These plates are presented to the customer after shearing or gas cutting to the ordered size. The notes deal necessarily with existing British practices and combine desirablefeatures of the existing five reversing plate mills within the British Steel Corporation. Comments are directed towards the influence of the UK environment on the marketing, finishing, and despatching of the products from these mills. The author describes the production of sheared plate from available feedstock with particular attention to the jobbing aspect and performance criteria of British mills.
