Abstract

A lot of studies confirm that pregnancy exercises are safe and beneficial for pregnant women and infants. Pregnancy exercises help pregnant women with vaginal delivery, reduce cesarean delivery rate, maternal depression and irritability symptoms, control the excessive growth of body weight during pregnancy, and prevent the occurrence of preeclampsia. Pregnancy exercises also play important roles in the prevention and management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The author intends to conduct a review on the roles of pregnancy exercises in prevention and management of GDM, in order to raise the awareness of pregnancy exercises and provide guidance for the development of appropriate and safe exercise program during pregnancy.
