Abstract

The effect of tungsten on the mechanical properties of the high-purity Fe-50mass%Cr alloy between 293 and 773 K was investigated by tensile testing and microstructural observation. It is concluded from the present experimental research that, by doping of tungsten, (1) 0.2% proof stress and tensile strength are enhanced, (2) the ductility at 673 and 773 K is surprisingly improved, (3) twinning is promoted and (4) the morphology of twin-matrix interfaces changes from wavy to linear. Consequently, the doping of tungsten is effective in strengthening and improving ductility at 673 and 773 K.
