Abstract

The results of a numerical analysis of the fiber ring cavity taking both the self-phase modulation and the group velocity dispersion into account are presented. We show that a period-doubling scenario is generally followed by this system in agreement with a recent experiment. The case of a small dispersion is shown to produce a modulational instability of the pulse envelope.
