Abstract

The city planner has stepped into the municipal government structure to fill the gap (long range planning) left by the city engineer in the past. Too much emphasis is now being placed on the socio-economic requirements in planning our urban areas. As a result, many plans will never become a reality. A long-range plan must be made up from a number of short-range programs. The city engineer and planner must cooperate in the development of the transportation plan, capital improvement plan, land use plan, circulation plan, subdivision regulations, street openings and setback regulations. The city engineer must provide technical guidance for today’s city planning activities.
