Abstract

AbstractCold rolling mill productivity and product quality depend on the lubricant chemistry and composition, as well as on such physical factors as operation and maintenance. This paper discusses new requirements for rolling mill oils. Ester‐based rolling oil formulations have been developed and their performance is evaluated, notably in respect of lubricity, strip cleanliness, and emulsion stability. Changes in these properties during operation and storage are also considered. It is found that the properties are greatly influenced by chemical constitution and the fat‐to‐ester ratio.
