Abstract

Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) performances of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by hydrothermal process in acidic and basic media are compared to understand the role of synthesis conditions. TiO2 nanoparticles obtained in basic medium exhibited a better DSSC performance with higher open circuit voltage (V oc) and enhanced photoconversion efficiency (5.46 %) compared to the sample synthesized in acidic medium (3.29 %). A more negative Fermi energy level (E F) and slower electron recombination kinetics are responsible for the higher efficiency of TiO2 synthesized in basic medium.
