Abstract

ABSTRACTAyurveda was evolved from India around 5000 BC. It is closely associated with the wellness of body, mind and soul. India has become the most preferred wellness destination of the world due to the presence of rich natural resources, ashrams, meditation centres and world famous spas. According to the Global Spa Summit Report 2011, spas are the backbone of the wellness tourism sector and the concept of wellness is incomplete without the involvement of spa. This study would examine the role played by spa resorts in promoting India as a wellness tourist destination. The study is qualitative in nature and confined towards Himalayan spa resorts. The primary data are collected from various spa resorts situated in the Himalayan states and secondary data are collected from various journals, reports and thesis.
