Abstract

SARS CoV2 infection is spreading all over the world and had caused a pandemic of unheard proportions. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of cases is important for treatment, isolation and epidemiological purposes. So far RT-PCR is the gold standard for providing diagnosis, however detection of antibodies specific to SARS CoV2 can provide another means of diagnosis and also serve as an important epidemiological tool. As the world is grappling with the COVID19 pandemic, there is increasing global interest in the role of serological testing for population monitoring, detecting asymptomatic infections and for plasma antibody titres to be used for therapeutics. Many commercial serological assays have become available, however, for interpretation of these assays it is important to know the kinetics of antibody development. In this review an overview on the role of serology in COVID 19 has been provided.
