Abstract

AbstractThe mathematical connection between the process of scintillation in cerium doped LaBr3 and the role of self trapped excitons is established. A set of kinetics equations, solved numerically, is successfully applied to describe the temperature dependence of gamma ray excited scintillation decay curves and light output as function of cerium concentration. A fit of this model coupled to experimental data provides detailed information on the STE to cerium energy transfer mechanism. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
