Abstract
In India scarcity of funds has always been a major problem that negatively affects higher education. For the first time, The government of India launched a scheme called Rashtriya Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) to provide strategic and outcome-dependent funding to the state higher education institutions. In Assam too a large number of higher education institutions were covered under the scheme. To know the effectiveness of the scheme a study was conducted among the beneficiary institutions from kamrup metro, kamrup rural and Nalbari districts of Assam. the researcher decided to use the descriptive survey method to serve the purpose. The study attempts to make sherds of evidence on the role of RUSA in developing higher education in the state.
