Abstract

RATIONALE: SHP-1 is a target of oxidants and functions as a negative regulator in a mouse model of asthma. Viable motheaten (mev) mice deficient in SHP-1 develop spontaneous Th2-dominated inflammation in the lung. Increased mast cells, mediators and cytokines were found in the spleen and lung tissues of these mice. However, the effects of SHP-1 on mast cell differentiation, proliferation and responses to oxidants are not well understood.
