Abstract
Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with rheumatoid arthritis have a depressed response to phytohemagglutinin in vitro. This depression was partly reversed by adding indomethacin, a prostaglandin synthetase inhibitor, to the cultures. Removal of glass-adherent cells prior to culture did not affect the depressed mitogen response of the patients' cells. The phytohemagglutinin response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from rheumatoid arthritis patients was more sensitive than normal to inhibition by exogenous prostaglandin E 2.
