Abstract

'Giftedness' in children relates to high potential, whereas 'talent' relates to high achievement. The concept of giftedness can be perplexing for those involved in caring for and supporting a gifted child. This article provides a starting point for primary healthcare providers in supporting gifted children by outlining a range of issues that may impact on these children. Gifted children are a heterogeneous population; giftedness occurs on a continuum. Giftedness can also co-occur with disabilities. Evidence-informed strategies to provide support to gifted children need to be considered.
