Abstract

Sir, We read with interest the comprehensive review by Atkinson et al. (2021) on the therapeutical potential of intraovarian injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in assisted reproduction. Mounting evidences have been provided that activated platelets release an array of biologically active factors and some of its members may be implicated in ovarian rejuvenation (Atkinson et al., 2021). In agreement with their contention, we have reported that a platelet-associated regulatory system is functional at the ovarian level and plays an important role in female reproduction (Bódis et al., 2014). Activated platelets have been claimed to play a crucial role in the development of the severe, potentially lethal iatrogenic, condition-ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Low-dose aspirin administration to IVF patients at high risk of OHSS proved to be effective to reduce the risk of OHSS.
