Abstract
A preoperative checkup is necessary for every patient undergoing surgery. A physician's opinion is vital in deciding the suitability of major or minor surgeries by assessing the health status of the patients. Multiple parameters must be monitored and recorded, including a proper history, thorough clinical examination, and an appropriate laboratory checkup. By assessing pre and perioperative risks, the physician can optimize the patient's medical conditions to reduce morbidity and mortality, improving outcomes and quality of life. This chapter discusses these topics at length and provides recommendations for fellow practitioners.
