Abstract

Based on the features of Harper-Dorn creep and the transition stress from this creep to power law creep, a relationship between the Peierls stress and the empirical constants in the Dorn equation for power law creep is derived, and is shown to agree very well with experimental data on metals, ceramics, and silicates. It is therefore inferred that the Peierls stress may play an important role in power law creep as in Harper-Dorn creep.
